Alabama returns to form and shuts out ULM
Things simply did not go ULM’s way on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Alabama was too much for ULM. Nothing the Warhawks did was enough to stop the Crimson Tide, who was coming off of a 31-17 opening week loss to Florida State. Any momentum that ULM was hoping to establish fell short each time.
At the half, Alabama led 42-0. Of the six drives that Alabama had in the first half, three of them were drives of under 40 yards. Every possible aspect of the half went in Alabama’s favor. Alabama starting quarterback Ty Simpson went 17-17 for 26 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. On the ground he had two carries for three yards with a touchdown. Simpson accomplished all of that in the first half, and did not return to the game.
In the second half, back-up quarterback Austin Mack led the offense in the third quarter and highly touted freshman Keelon Russell led the offense in the fourth quarter.
Alabama quarterbacks finished the night a combined 29-33 for 371 yards with 7 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

For the Warhawks, while positive moments were tough to come by, there were some notable moments to mention. The offense had seven plays of at least 10 yards or more, in comparison Florida State had 11 plays of 10 yards or more. The offense was 6-of-14 on third down conversions and had nine first downs. Defensively, the Warhawks did get two tackles for loss, but outside of that there just wasn’t much going on.
Quarterback Aidan Armenta was 8-of-14 passing for 28 yards and an interception. For a second week in a row, running back Braylan McReynolds was the leading rusher as he had seven carries for 24 yards, while also having four kick returns for 28 yards. Defensively, Kamrin Canterbury led the way with seven tackles, while Marcus Ross had six tackles, including a tackle for loss.
The four and a half hour drive back to Monroe is not a fun one after taking a 73-0 defeat, there are at the very least two positive takeaways from this. Firstly, the Warhawks are now on a bye week, they can rest up and prepare for their next road trip to UTEP in two weeks. Secondly, while the loss is humiliating after coming off of a respectable Week 1 performance, the Warhawks were given $1.9 million dollars to make the trip to Tuscaloosa and that money will go a very long way in their athletic department.
Week 2 is now behind the Warhawks and all eyes move to the Miners of UTEP. Be sure to catch the ULM Warhawks as the take on the UTEP Miners at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas on Saturday September 20th at 8PM/ET.
