
Former Tulane quarterback, TJ Finley, lands with new team just one game into the 2025 college football season.
Finley will return to the Sun Belt, making Georgia State his new home and marking his sixth team in six years.
TJ Finley started his collegiate career at LSU in 2020, where he started all five games for the Tigers and threw for 941 yards with five touchdowns before hitting the transfer portal at the end of the 2020 season.
At Auburn, Finley stuck around for two seasons and started six games, mainly serving as their back-up quarterback. During his extended stint and limited playing time at Auburn, Finley would throw for 1,258 yards and seven touchdowns before stepping into the portal again at the end of the 2022 season.
Finley would land at Texas State for the 2023 season, making a name for himself with the Bobcats.
The now redshirt sophomore quarterback started all 13 games for the Bobcats, throwing for a career high and school record in passing yards with 3,439. Finley additionally notched a career high in passing touchdowns with 24.
Finley would lead the 2023 Bobcats to an 8-5 overall record, capping off his time with Texas State with a victory against Rice in the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl. Finley would also be awarded with Sun Belt 4th team honors.
After standout quarterback, Jordan McCloud transferred to Texas State from James Madison, Finley once again found himself in the transfer portal.
The now redshirt senior landed himself at Western Kentucky for the 2024 college football season. However, Finley’s career was short lived at WKU, being sidelined with injury after just three games, throwing for 490 yards and one touchdown for the Hilltoppers.
Finley once again found himself with a new home before the beginning of the 2025 season, landing with Tulane. However, the redshirt senior wouldn’t play a snap with the Green Wave, entering his name into the transfer portal in April. Finley was currently suspended that same month due to an ongoing court case.
This leads us to today, the redshirt senior quarterback announcing that Georgia State will be his new home, using the final year of his eligibility to return to the Sun Belt. With the addition of TJ Finley, Georgia State will be rostering six quarterbacks heading into week two.
