Women’s Basketball
The past week in the Sun Belt was more of the same. In seven games against Power Five schools — including the Big East — the Sun Belt went 0-7, and all but two losses were by double digits.
On Nov. 16, Villanova played its first true road game of the season in Harrisburg, Virginia against James Madison. It marked the ninth time in the past two seasons, excluding the 2020-21 COVID-19 season, that JMU had hosted a power-conference opponent. The turning point came in the third quarter, where the Wildcats outscored the Dukes 24-16 on their way to an 84-73 victory. JMU’s Peyton McDaniel led all scorers with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Auburn had a tougher time putting away Georgia State on Nov. 17 as the Panthers looked to snap a five-game losing streak in the series. Crystal Henderson and Kaleigh Addie scored 18 points each to keep Georgia State within five. Auburn won 69-65 and improved its series lead to 8-7. The Panthers’ last win came during the 1979-80 season.
The conference’s best win of the week in terms of its opponent’s NET ranking was App State’s 77-50 victory former Southern Conference rival Wofford.
UL Monroe (4-0) and Southern Miss (5-0) are the Sun Belt’s only remaining undefeated teams, while Louisiana (0-4) is the lone winless program.
In the latest ESPN Bracketology published on Nov. 18, ULM is projected as the league’s automatic qualifier. The Warhawks are slotted as a No. 15 seed facing LSU in the first round.

Jeremiah Price (157 pounds) and Colt Campbell (freshman/sophomore 174 pounds) finished runner-up, while Kaden Kelser (149 pounds) finished third.
The following weekend, App State traveled to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the Journeyman’s Collegiate Classic. On Nov. 8, the Mountaineers split their duals, defeating Hofstra after falling to Navy. The next day, five wrestlers went undefeated in pool play, including preseason All-SoCon heavyweight pick Stephen Monchery in his 285-pound pool.
