Scoring was at a premium in the 2nd quarter, the only points coming from Thundering Herd freshman kicker Lorcan Quinn. After a turnover on downs by the Golden Eagles, Marshall would put together a long sustained drive of their own. The Thundering Herd caping off a 70 yard drive with a 23-yard field goal by the freshman Quinn. The score sitting at 14-6 as the teams break for halftime.
The Eagles would pick up right where they left off, taking the opening possession 76-yards in 10 plays and capping it off with Camden Brown once again, hauling in his second touchdown of the day and extending the Georgia Southern lead to 21-6.

The Thundering Herd finally responded near the end of the 3rd quarter, marching down the field in four plays and finally getting into the end zone. The touchdown was scored by Antwan Roberts, the Thundering Herd would miss the point after attempt, bringing the score to 24-12.
With each teams trading their first possessions of the 4th quarter, time was quickly dwindling for the Thundering Herd.
With only 3:55 left in the game, quarterback Zion Turner would launch a 47-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Norton, pulling the Thundering Herd within striking distance of the Eagles.

Unfortunately, time was not on Marshall’s side and would ultimately run out on the Thundering Herd, the final score sitting at 24-19 and denying Marshall bowl eligibility.
Georgia Southern was dominant in every category, putting up more than double the rush yards of Marshall. Additionally, the Eagles had 41:38 of total possession time, nearly three full quarters.
Despite an up and down season, the Thundering Herd held their own for most of the season under new head coach Tony Gibson. For Marshall, this is most likely the end of the 2025 football season.
For the Eagles, they will await their fate for bowl season, with Selection Sunday set for Dec. 7.
