Georgia Southern got a much needed win Saturday night in Statesboro 45-40 over Coastal Carolina to improve the Eagles to five wins, now just one win away from bowl eligibility.
The game was a high scoring affair, as the two teams combined for 85 points and 1,135 offensive yards. Eagles running back OJ Arnold had one of the most impressive stat lines of the season, and not just within the Sun Belt. He had 267 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. He also became the first Georgia Southern player in history with a rushing, passing, and receiving touchdown in the same game.

The game got off to a very fast start, as OJ Arnold had a one-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 Eagles.
Coastal Carolina answered immediately with a 75-yard touchdown courtesy of a Bryson Graves to Jameson Tucker connection. The quick scoring continued when Camden Brown had a four-yard receiving touchdown to make it 14-7 Eagles.
The Chanticleer’s answered quickly once again, on a five-yard rushing touchdown from Samari Collier to tie the game again.
OJ Arnold then broke free on a 62-yard rushing touchdown to once again give Georgia Southern the lead. After a 41-yard field goal from Kian Afrookhteh the first quarter finally came to a close with a 21-17 Eagles lead.

Arnold once again did his part, as he was on the receiving end of a 41-yard pass to extend the lead 28-17. The Chants again responded with a 51-yard field goal to make it a one possession game.
The Eagles continued the scoring with a seven-yard receiving touchdown by Camden Brown to make it 35-20. The next play though, Malcom Gillie took a 96-yard kick return to the house. That play would finally end the first half with Eagles leading, 35-27.
The Chants started the scoring in the second half quickly on a 12-yard touchdown catch to Karmello English to make the game 35-33 after a failed two point conversion.
Camden Brown then had another long receiving touchdown of 73-yards to retake the lead. The Eagles then kicked a 29-yard field goal to start the fourth quarter to make the game a two possession difference. Advantage Eagles, 45-33.

Coastal did respond quickly to make it 45-40 on a 16-yard run from Dominic Knicley. However, the Eagles were able milk the clock and hang onto their victory.

On top of OJ Arnold’s incredible performance, Camden Brown also had a great game with 133 receiving yards and three touchdowns, on five receptions.
Coastal now drops t0 5-2 in Sun Belt play which eliminates them from the SBC title game. With the win, Georgia Southern is now 3-3 in conference play and one win away from bowl eligibility.
Georgia Southern will be back in action in Statesboro next weekend to host Old Dominion, while Coastal Carolina will be on the road again as they take a road trip to Columbia to face South Carolina.
