LSU defeats Coastal Carolina 5-3, clinching 8th national title
Omaha, Neb.– The stage is set: The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will take on the LSU Tigers Saturday in Game 1 of a best-of-three series.
Coastal Carolina (56-11) comes into the contest riding high on a 26-game winning streak. The Chanticleers have not lost a game since April 22, a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the College of Charleston. Since then, Coastal has played the best brand of baseball in the country, taking down the likes of Clemson, Auburn, Southern Miss, and Oregon State. They are a perfect 8-0 in NCAA Tournament play.
The home team for tonight’s matchup, LSU (51-15) has had quite the run themselves. Coming into the tournament as the #6 overall seed, the Tigers have lost just once– a surprising 10-4 loss to Little Rock in the 2025 Baton Rouge Regional. They defeated Arkansas, UCLA, and Arkansas once more in a walk-off thriller to punch their ticket to the CWS Final. LSU is seeking its eighth baseball national title.

Projected Starters:
Coastal Carolina: Head coach Kevin Schnall confirmed in Friday’s press conference that sophomore RHP Cameron Flukey would get the ball in Game 1.
Flukey has put on a masterful performance in 2025, accumulating a 3.29 ERA over 95.2 IP. He leads the Chanticleers with 109 strikeouts on the year, utilizing a devastating curveball and a fastball that will sit 93-96 mph. He appeared in Coastal’s first game in Omaha, providing four innings of relief en route to a 7-4 victory over Arizona.
LSU: Tigers lefty ace Kade Anderson is expected to start Game 1, though no confirmation as of yet.
Anderson leads the nation in strikeouts with 170, also utilizing a big-breaking curveball in his four-pitch mix. He has amassed an impressive 11-1 record on the year, much due to his ability to control the strike zone. Anderson’s 66.4% strike rate is nothing short of elite, meaning that this matchup will likely be a low-scoring affair.
