Coastal Carolina University announced Wednesday that head baseball coach Kevin Schnall has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him leading the Chanticleers program through the 2030 season.
Schnall, a former Chanticleer All-American and longtime assistant coach, began his coaching career at his alma mater in 2001 after spending two seasons in the Cincinnati Reds’ farm system following his selection in the 25th round of the 1999 MLB Draft. He served as an assistant on Gary Gilmore’s staff and was recognized by D1Baseball in 2018 as one of the nation’s top 15 premier assistant coaches.
Throughout his career at Coastal, Schnall has helped guide the Chanticleers to 16 NCAA Division I Regional appearances, three Super Regionals and the 2016 College World Series title. In his first season as head coach, he continued that winning tradition, leading the Chanticleers to a program-best 56–13 record, capturing the Sun Belt Conference championship and riding a 26-game winning streak all the way to the national championship series against LSU. His remarkable debut campaign earned him Baseball America’s 2025 National Coach of the Year honors — the first coach ever to receive the award in their debut season.
“I want to thank Chance Miller, President Dr. (James) Winebrake, Board Chair Natasha Hanna, and our entire Board of Trustees for their continued trust and support,” Schnall said. “I’m honored and grateful to receive a contract extension from an institution that means so much to my family and me. We couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished as a program — especially bringing Coastal baseball back to Omaha in 2025.”
Along with Schnall’s extension, Coastal Carolina has also secured new deals for associate head coach Chad Oxendine and assistant coaches Matt Williams and Matt Schilling, investing in the program’s long-term stability and success.
“These extensions and the University’s commitment to our staff and program reflect a shared vision for the future of Coastal baseball,” Schnall said. “Coastal baseball isn’t going anywhere. Our pursuit of excellence and championships continues.”
The Chanticleers now set their sights on another trip to Omaha after falling just short in last season’s national championship series. This year, they’ll have to regroup without stars Caden Bodine, Jacob Morrison and Riley Eikhoff, who were all selected in the 2025 MLB draft.
