Coastal cruises to victory over Southern Miss
Coastal Carolina earned its fifth consecutive victory with a dominant 85-67 win over Southern Miss, continuing its strong stretch of play and completing a perfect homestand. The Chanticleers never trailed, shot efficiently all night and used a fast start to pull away early from the Golden Eagles.
Coastal jumped out to a quick start, hitting its first four three-pointers to build a 12-4 lead. The shooting did not stop there, as the Chanticleers hit their next three shots to open the game 7-for-7 from the field. By the first media timeout, nearly eight minutes in, Coastal Carolina held a 23-11 advantage.

After the stoppage, Southern Miss forward Tylik Weeks knocked down two midrange jumpers to cut the lead to single digits, but the momentum was short-lived. AJ Dancler answered with his third three-pointer of the first half to push the lead back to 11.
Following Dancler’s triple that made it 26-15, both offenses slowed over the final nine minutes of the half. Each team scored 15 points or fewer during the stretch, with the lead hovering around the 12-point mark. Coastal extended the margin just before the break, as Derrick Green grabbed an offensive rebound and scored a putback to send the Chanticleers into halftime up 39-25.
Dancler led all scorers at the break with 11 points. Josh Beadle and Reggie Hill added eight apiece, while RaSheed Jones stuffed the stat sheet with six points, four assists, three steals and two blocks. Weeks paced Southern Miss with 10 points, and Izzy Hart chipped in seven in the opening 20 minutes.
Jones picked up where the Chanticleers left off, opening the second half with a three to extend the lead to 17. Southern Miss responded immediately with a Hart three, and after a brief exchange of baskets, Coastal led by 14 at the first media timeout of the half.
The Golden Eagles trimmed the deficit to single digits shortly after, as Djahi Binet and Hart scored five straight points to make it a nine-point game with 13:39 remaining. Coastal responded right away, with Beadle finishing at the rim and Hill drilling a three to reestablish control.
The Chanticleers continued their hot shooting night, seemingly finding the bottom of the net on every trip. As a team, Coastal shot over 60 percent from the field and 70 percent from three-point range in the second half.
The lead hovered around 15 for much of the final stretch before ballooning to a game-high 21 on another Dancler three with just under two minutes remaining. Southern Miss made a brief push, but Coastal closed out the 85-67 victory.
