Coastal Carolina Week 11 Basketball Preview
After dropping three games in a row at home, Coastal Carolina got back in the win column with a 67-62 victory over rival App State. The Chanticleers will look to carry that momentum into a tough two-game road trip, visiting Marshall and Georgia Southern.
Coastal Carolina at Marshall
Marshall welcomes the Chanticleers to Huntington after an 81-73 road loss to Georgia State. The Thundering Herd now sit at 11-6 (3-2 Sun Belt), while the Chanticleers enter the road trip at 9-9 (2-4).
The Chanticleers are led by guards Josh Beadle, AJ Dancler and Rasheed Jones, who may be one of the best guard trios at the mid-major level, with all three averaging more than 13 points per game. Beadle is coming off a huge game in which he finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
While the three guards drive the team, role players have needed to step up, especially when not all three guards are at their best. Forward Reggie Hill has filled that role for head coach Justin Gray, scoring 27 points over the last two games.
Coastal Carolina has also received solid contributions from the bench, with forward Braeden MacVicar bringing energy, center Derrick Green emerging as the primary backup and Dajohn Craig serving as the top guard off the bench because of his defense and shooting.
The Thundering Herd are led by Wyatt Fricks, a 6-foot-10 athletic forward. Fricks is averaging 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting better than 50 percent from the field.
Marshall also features a pair of guards who have been difficult to stop in Jalen Speer and Noah Otshudi. Speer is the team’s second-leading scorer at 14.1 points per game and leads the team with 5.9 assists. Otshudi is averaging 13.5 points per game while also collecting four rebounds and four assists.
The post could be where the game is decided, as Coastal center Nadjrick Peat faces a tall task. Marshall center Matt Van Kommen, who stands 7-foot-4, averages just 7.9 points per game but shoots nearly 80 percent from the field. His size presents a significant advantage, and Peat, a strong defender, will need to work on both ends of the floor.

Coastal Carolina at Georgia Southern
After the Marshall game Wednesday, the Chanticleers will make an unusual, long conference trip to Statesboro for a rematch. Georgia Southern, which sits at 12-6 (4-1), traveled to Conway on New Year’s Day and earned a gutsy 82-81 road victory.
Coastal has struggled with slow starts in 2026, and the first meeting between these teams reflected that trend. The Chanticleers fell behind by double digits early and trailed by eight at halftime before clawing back to take the lead in the second half. They also completed a seven-point comeback in the final 2:42 of regulation before falling in overtime.
The three guards led the way for the Chanticleers, as usual, with all three scoring 18 points or more. Peat also delivered his best performance in a Chanticleer uniform, finishing with eight points and 15 rebounds, seven of which were offensive.
Bench production will need to improve if the Chanticleers want to win on the road, as they totaled just seven bench points in the first meeting.
Georgia Southern was led by its two star guards, Tyren Moore and Spudd Webb. Moore finished with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Webb scored 19 points. Forward Alden Applewhite also contributed, posting 14 points and 11 rebounds.
If the Eagles want to sweep the season series, they will need to improve both their shooting and rebounding. Georgia Southern was outrebounded by nine in the first meeting, including allowing 20 offensive rebounds. The Eagles play a small lineup with no traditional bigs, so a collective effort will be required.
Georgia Southern is also not a strong perimeter shooting team, hitting just 32.5 percent from three-point range this season. However, the Eagles shot only 24 percent from deep in the first meeting and will need to be closer to their season average to improve their chances of winning.
