Troy Cruises to Victory Against ULM
Another week, another letdown as the ULM Warhawks move to (3-4) following their 35-14 defeat to the Troy Trojans at home.
Troy started fast out of the gate and never looked back. While their offensive statistics were nothing out of the ordinary, the defense put Troy in many good situations in the second half.
To open the game, it took Troy 2:24 to see the end-zone for the first time. The six-play, 68-yard drive was capped off by a Tae Meadows 20-yard touchdown run. Following a quick three-and-out by ULM, Troy got back to work. Troy was able to eat over five minutes off the clock on an 11-play 56-yard drive that resulted in a 29-yard field goal by Scott Renfroe. This gave Troy a quick 10-0 lead.

Troy was able to close out the first quarter with an 11-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a seven-yard touchdown reception by Nic Trujillo from Hunter Herring. ULM now trailed Troy 14-8 after Andrew Wells successfully executed the two-point conversion.
The momentum was rising as ULM forced Troy to punt on their next drive. With a chance to take the lead, ULM started their 10-play, 71-yard drive with a 25-yard run from Zach Palmer-Smith, followed by a 26-yard pass from Hunter Herring to Jonathan Bibbs. After driving down to the Troy nine-yard line, a delay of game gave ULM a 4th-and-6 on the Troy 14-yard line. Danny Hagan missed the 32-yard field goal attempt and this was the beginning of the end for ULM.
Troy responded with a five-play, 80-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown. Tucker Kilcrease found Troy Taylor for a 60-yard touchdown pass that gave Troy the 17-8 lead at halftime. ULM had a chance to respond before halftime, but elected to stay on the field instead of attempting another field goal.
The first half was good for Troy as they were able to move the ball at will. ULM on the other hand had plenty of chances but fell just short. Capitalizing on big plays really held ULM back. Had ULM utilized and succeeded on field goal attempts and potential field goal attempts, this could have been a one possession game headed into the half.
ULM received the ball to open the second half. The 12-play, 70-yard drive ended with a Brandon Buckhaulter 12-yard touchdown reception from Aidan Armenta on a 4th-and-11 from the Troy 12-yard line. The two-point conversion attempt failed and ULM now trailed Troy 17-14.
Two, three-and-outs followed the touchdowns by each team. Troy then went on a nine-play, 43-yard drive that began with a 27-yard reception by Ethan Conner from Tucker Kilcrease and ended with a 41-yard field goal by Scott Taylor Renfroe.
On the next ULM possession, Aidan Armenta was sacked for an 11-yard loss where he fumbled and it was recovered by Troy’s Elijah Davis at the ULM 11-yard line. On the next play, Tray Taylor ran it in for 11 yards and the touchdown. On the following ULM drive, Aidan Armenta was intercepted, giving Troy the ball on the ULM 14-yard line. The ULM defense was able to hold their own and held Troy to a field goal.

ULM had the ball back, Aidan Armenta found JP Coulter for 15-yards but Coulter fumbled and Troy recovered the ball and returned it yo the 50-yard-line. A costly unsportsmanlike penalty hurt ULM, but Troy failed to covert on 4th and 1 from the ULM 18-yard line. ULM moved the ball a bit but the drive came yo an end after Troy’s Joe Lott intercepted Aidan Armenta’s pass and returned it 53-yards for the touchdown. This gave Troy the 37-14 lead.
Troy had a turnover on downs on their next possession and each team followed with punts. Troy was victorious 37-14.
The second half for Troy showed some great defensive adjustments. The ULM defense did all that they could to keep them in the game but lack of special teams in the first half and failed execution of offense in the second half sealed their fate.
