Colton Joseph led the way for ODU’s victory. Joseph was 12-22 passing for 231 yards
Old Dominion went to ULM handling it like a business trip, winning 31-6. ULM does not have a trusted kicking option currently, and it was never more clear than against ODU. The kicking game will likely be a top priority in the offseason to help secure a trusted kicker.
ULM was able to move the football, but no extended drives resulted in a touchdown. Five turnover on downs and an interception led to 24-points for ODU. ULM yielded field position to ODU too many times, and the Monarchs capitalized on those opportunities.
To open the game, ODU was able to get the ball down the field. A pass break up ULM’s Zy Jackson let to an ODU 31-yard field goal attempt by Riley Callaghan, which was missed.
On ULM’s first drive Braylon McReynolds got things started with a five yard carry. Quarterback Aidan Armenta had a four yard carry that set up a 4th-and-1, and Armenta was stuffed leading to a turnover on downs. That gave ODU the ball at the ULM 29-yard line. After a pass interference call against ULM, two plays later, running back Ke’Travion Hargrove went up the middle for 12 yards and the touchdown giving ODU the early 7-0 lead.
After moving the ball well, ULM was able to get down to the ODU 38-yard line. On 4th-and-5, quarterback Aidan Armenta found Jake Godfrey for three yards, coming up short and setting up their second turnover on downs. ODU took over on their own 35-yard line. ODU quarterback Colton Joseph was able to hit the left side for a 58-yard touchdown run, but the play was called back after an illegal block. On the next play Joseph was able to find Ja’Cory Thomas for 53-yards, setting ODU up with a 1st and goal on the ULM 7-yard line. On the next play, Colton Joseph kept the ball and ran up the middle for a 7-yard touchdown, giving ODU the 14-0 lead.

On ULM’s next play, Zion Frink intercepted Aidan Armenta’s pass, giving ODU the ball back on the ULM 33-yard line. Na’eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding hauled in a 25-yard pass from Colton Joseph setting up ODU on the ULM 3-yard line. On the next play, offensive pass interference pushed ODU back to the ULM 18-yard line. ODU wasn’t able to do much after the penalty, and settled for a 30-yard field goal by Nathanial Eichner giving ODU the 17-0 lead with 1:35 remaining in the first quarter.
ULM running back Zach Palmer-Smith was able to get things rolling. Palmer-Smith accounted for 29-yards on the ground for the drive, but on 4th-and-1 at the ODU 31-yard line he was stuffed giving ODU the ball back. Colton Joseph was able to capitalize and run the ball in for a 12-yard touchdown extending their lead to 24-0. The rest of the half presented a turnover on downs for each team, a punt by each team and ULM closed the half with a three play drive for -2 yards that saw Aidan Armenta get sacked twice. ODU went to the half with a 24-0 lead.
The first half was arguably the most frustrating half of football by ULM all season. Outside of the Alabama game, ULM was unable to capitalize on multiple opportunities to set them up for points.
The third quarter was ultimately unproductive for both teams. To open the half, ULM had a three and out. ULM looked to have a glimmer of hope as Jabari Tiller sacked Colton Joseph, causing a fumble. Jaden Hamlin recovered the fumble at the ODU 32-yard line. Aidan Armenta found Julian Bibbs for 24-yards to the ODU eight yard line. Armenta found Jonathan Bibbs for a short pass and as he was heading towards the goal line, ODU’s Mario Easterly was able to force a fumble at the three yard line. Each team traded punts, followed by a turnover on downs by ODU near the end of the third quarter.
ULM had a three and out to closeout the third quarter and begin the fourth. Followed by a 49-yard punt by ULM, ODU’s Devin Rouche returned the punt 15-yards to the ULM 38-yard line. Colton Joseph set up a 1st and goal at the ULM one yard line after a 24-yard run. Joseph followed that up with a one yard rushing touchdown giving ODU the 31-0 lead. Another turnover on downs by ULM gave ODU the ball back at their own 20-yard line. After a holding call against ODU, they were not able to do anything with the rest of the drive and on their punt attempt, ULM’s Brett Drillette blocked the punt and it was recovered by Jaeden Calender at the ODU 2-yard line. ULM quarterback Aiden Armenta was able to find tight end Rylan Green for the four yard touchdown pass, which was Green’s first reception of the season. With ULM not having a kicker, ULM attempted to go for a two-point conversion, but were unsuccessful. ULM now trailed 31-6. ODU punted on their next possession. ULM also punted but ODU was called for running into the kicker, giving ULM the ball back to close out the game giving ODU the 31-6 victory.
Colton Joseph led the way for ODU’s victory. Joseph was 12-22 passing for 231 yards. Joseph also had 16 carries for 72 yards and three touchdowns. ULM’s Jabari Tiller led the way for the team with seven tackles, and 1.5 sacks.
